Server upgrades ...

The WolfChat.org server has been undergoing upgrades ...


When our last server died, several people donated hardware ... Haze sent a compleat computer built by Gateway along with ram and some hardrives... other people also donated hardware, all noted in previouse posts.

At that time my wife was still very sick, and I did not have much time to spend on computer stuff, so i put the machine up with haste. That haste has now caught up with me , and the server suffers because of that.

Now that Mary, Praise our good Lord above, is doing much better, and needs much less of my attention, I plan to rebuild the entire server. I will be useing all the hardware donated by WolfChatters. I plan to do a compleat reinstall of BSD with their newest release 7.1 which has many improvements from their older 7.0 release. I will also do a compleate reinstall of Unreal and anope. Along with what ever else needs to be updated.

This means that WolfChat.org will experience some downtime, about one weeks worth or less.

The server will be down for one compleate day, and than at irregular intervolts after that for about a week or so. All this will begine the second week of March I belive, I will have more deffinate times and dates to post as we get closer to that time. Until that time, i will be spending my time dling all the nessisary software, burning them to disks and reading their docs as to be more familare with them, before starting the installs...

At this time, if you have any sugestions or requests about services you would like to see WolfChat.org offer, This is the time to say so. For example, any IRC options we dont have atm, a paticular game you would like to see us have up full time, ( in the past we ran a Ultima online shard, Quake, Doom, and Unreal servers... ) We have had in the past a BBS, and FTP servers as well.

I am interested in starting up a private (for wolfchatters) file shairing thang... Prob run via FTP ... we would need people to upload as well as to download files. Naturaly there wont be any shortage of ppl wanting to dl, but with out uploaders this will be a pointless project. some ideas would be games, ebooks, music, irc files ... I have some files already to offer -Naturaly all clean, spyware and malware free and "leagle" for dl ... any sugestions or ideas to that end? I would need to find good scanners that would work on BSD, to check each file before they are offered for dl ... maybe something that will scan auto as the files come in ... ???
